Backpack Hero, an adorable-looking new roguelite about exploring dungeons and sorting out backpacks, has just thrown off the shackles of Early Access and has now fully released on Steam.
The biggest addition to the game is Story Mode, which is the highlight of the 1.0 update. This is the meta-progression layer that “balances the learning curve for new players” and gives the game more of a roguelite spin.
Backpack Hero version 1.0 and beyond
The developer also confirmed that version 1.0 is just a milestone on the game’s journey, rather than a chance for them to kick back and watch some quality daytime television. The team was quick to highlight that Kickstarter rewards still need to be added, for example.
Other additions for players to look forward to include new NPCs and side-quests, as well as more items to carefully pack away into your luggage. There was also whispers of improved mod support, more music, and a potential revamp of holiday events.
I’ve not had the pleasure of playing this one yet, but it does look quite charming. I love the overall concept though, and I really want it to succeed.
Backpack Hero actually launched on PC (that’s on Linux, Mac, SteamOS, and Windows for the full house) on November 14, however, I was preoccupied with my Astral Ascent review. It’s well worth a read, but I would say that, wouldn’t I?!
