It has been a busy couple of weeks here, and one game that almost snuck past me is Vaewolf. However, after taking a closer look at the game this evening, it’s time to put that right and share the latest news from developer Milky Tea.

The recently announced action-roguelite looks a bit like Hades thanks to the Mignola-esque art style and focus on hack-and-slash gameplay. Yet once you take a closer look at the premise, Vaewolf becomes much more interesting.

Set in the North of England in an alternate 800AD, in this violent power fantasy hack-and-slash roguelite, you play as an elf-turned-vampire-turned-werewolf who is on the hunt for revenge against some other werewolves – Viking ones, this time – who killed his family.

It sounds like the focus is going to be shifting into the best form for the job at hand. The elf will be your ranged attack, the werewolf is going to rip up the place with his claws, and the vampire can command dark magic.

I’m particularly interested in seeing more of the setting. We’re promised a pleasant an extremely violent trip to the Lake District and Cumbria, an unusual setting for a video game, but one that is being brought to life with art inspired by Hergé (Tintin) and Mike Mignola (Hellboy).

The initial announcement of Vaewolf came during Gamescom, but more recently we got another trailer that shows us a bit of the story. I’ve embedded both on the page, so you can catch up if you want.

Vaewolf is going to be released on PC, PS5, NS2, and Xbox Series in early 2027, but we’ve been told we’re getting more news in the coming months. UK-based developer Milky Tea is also promising lore drops and creative insights in the meantime, so hit the old wishlist button on Steam if you’d like to keep track of everything as it happens.

Still with me? Of course you are! If you want to keep reading about great hand-picked roguelikes, this website is absolutely chock-full of them. Head over to the Guides Page for a concentrated hit of roguish games, organised via sub-genre and platform.

What’s more, there are always going to be new lists for emerging trends as well as fresh titles to highlight. This is because my backlog is embarrassingly long, and so I’m always trying to balance the new games that arrive in my inbox with playing the stuff I already have.
