Mechabellum is a sci-fi autobattler about organising a giant mechanised fighting force, and then smashing it into the armies assembled by your enemies in explosive, asynchronous battles.
Developer Game River released Mechabellum back in September 24, and now, two years later, the studio is back with a massive 2.0 update, a new roguelike mode, and a free version of the game designed to hook in some new players.
The highlight for me is the Star Expedition, a new roguelite mode that’s playable solo or co-op. The new mode will take you into randomised battles across nine planets that we’re told will be more relaxing than the normal experience – we’ll see about that!
The newest gameplay addition of note is the new Centurion, a new mecha intended to mix things up on the battlefield via several potential applications. This powerful new unit has a potent long range attack, dual-wield rifles for mid-range, and a melee mode, too.
Finally, a word on the free edition of the game, which is a very generous offering that grants access to most of the game. If you’ve not already had a look, you have no more excuses!
