The studio behind Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor and the publisher-developer of Northgard have teamed up to create Northgard Battlegrounds, a new auto-battler set in the fantasy-RTS franchise.

It was announced back in April, but came to my attention today when I discovered that there’s an open beta coming for Northgard Battlegrounds on Steam in just a few days. On July 9th, to be precise.

The beta includes a good slice of the game, with over 50 structures to build, fate cards to play, a trio of patrons to bless your best efforts, and two clans – Raven and Stag – along with their respective skills.

Funday shared a bunch of details in the gameplay overview trailer that I’ve embedded below. Check it out for more on the game’s mechanics and how they use asynchronous PvP to keep things feeling spicy.

I’ve always had a soft spot for the Northgard series, ever since I met the team at Gamescom a few years back, so fingers crossed Funday can do what they do and make another cracking spin-off!

Still with me? Of course you are! If you want to keep reading about great hand-picked roguelikes, this website is absolutely chock-full of them. Head over to the Guides Page for a concentrated hit of roguish games, organised via sub-genre and platform.

What’s more, there are always going to be new lists for emerging trends as well as fresh titles to highlight. This is because my backlog is embarrassingly long, and so I’m always trying to balance the new games that arrive in my inbox with playing the stuff I already have.
