It’s wild to think that space roguelike Approaching Infinity has been in development as long as we have been waiting for GTA 6.
Developer IBOL has been busy over the last decade and a bit helping to bring the project to life and it’s finally out now on Steam. The game was first conceived in 2013, published exclusively by Shrapnel games in 2015, and then launched into Steam Early Access in 2020.
Described as a limitless cosmic adventure and the 90s space game you always wanted, Approaching Infinity is a turn-based space RPG in the spirit of sci-fi classics, offering endless exploration and progression.
The game has 14 factions with full quest lines that players can immerse themselves in. It also features deep customisation, with there being an in-depth character creator and 10 space-themed character classes that all have their own unique game-altering skills.
Even after 12 years, the end isn’t in sight, as developer IBOL plans to release both free updates and big DLC. They mentioned that they don’t plan to release a sequel but to expand upon the game to create the best sci-fi odyssey possible. We will certainly stay tuned!
If that all piqued your interest, then you’ll be pleased to know that there is a free playable demo available for download, allowing you to explore the vast expanses of the game firsthand.
