While the rest of the games media are trying to write up everything that comes out of Gamescom, I’m here covering the beat that matters, and that means telling you about today’s 1.0 release of Funguys Swarm on PC, as well as its arrival on console.
Don’t be fooled by the cute graphics, this is one of my favourite bullet heavens of this year. Sure, you’re running around the garden and smacking fruity enemies, but there’s something sinister brewing under the surface. There’s also a decent challenge, but a welcome one that I think scales nicely with your progress.
The unlocks are plentiful, the presentation is cracking, and the new EA version of the game includes a new arena: Hellscape. On top of that, the overall progression system has been updated, and good news for early adopters like me: your progress carries over into the final game.
There isn’t any cross-platform progress, the 1.0 Steam post confirms, so if you plan on picking this up on PS5, Switch 2, or Xbox, you will not be able to take any EA progress with you. Not a massive surprise, to be fair, but good to know, I guess!
Funguys Swarm has also just been added to my guide to games like Vampire Survivors, so check it out there for more great games like it.
