May might be drawing in to a close, but we’re still seeing some awesome-looking games planning to make a last-minute splash.
One of these games is The Book of Aaru, an action isometric roguelite set in ancient Egypt, which is uniquely infused with dark sci-fi influences. Released as the debut title from Czech independent Amenti Studio, it’s planned to launch exclusively on PC on 27th May.
In The Book of Aaru, players step into the shoes of Emily Sands, a daring explorer who mysteriously vanished while searching for the temple of Osiris in 1926. Cursed and stripped of humanity, they’ll navigate through intricately hand-crafted trap corridors, each presenting a unique challenge that demands diverse skills, precise timing, and adaptable strategies.

The game draws influence from Hades and Curse of the Dead Gods, but it has a few tricks of its own up its sleeve. It features an ever-evolving labyrinth, where landmarks and key locations will remain the same, but the cunning traps around you will keep you on your toes.
It also has what it describes as active meta-progression, which rewards players for extra initiative and not just for clearing levels. Looking at the Steam page, this appears to be through actions such as destroying the environment and uncovering hidden secrets.
