Toxic Frontier was announced last night during PC Gamer’s Tokyo Direct livestream, and now that the dust has settled, I’m looking forward to discovering more about this interesting fusion of ideas, despite the challenging nature of the game’s themes.
The developer, Mint Gate Games, describes it as a roguelike city builder, and there’s also a deckbuilding element in the mix, putting it firmly in my ballpark. I also like that it has something interesting to say.
As you can see, it’s a hex-based strategy game with distinctive, low-fi graphics, which only reinforces the game’s rustic charm, if you ask me. In fact, the audio-visual side of the experience seems to be very on point, based on the first look we got in the trailer below.

It sounds like the gameplay will be high-risk, high-reward, in the sense that you’ll be encouraged to expand out into the toxic wasteland in search of new opportunities, but, of course, there’ll be danger lurking as you explore the world around you.
This sounds all very interesting, in my opinion, and given how topical the themes of the game are right now, I’m looking forward to taking a closer look. That’ll be sometime in the next few months, with Toxic Frontier heading to PC (Win) on Steam at some point in Q1 2027.
