The team at Panflip Studio got in touch this week to share a new trailer (embedded below for your convenience) for their upcoming deckbuilder. I’m glad they brought it to my attention, too, because their game, Stack Order, looks like a psychedelic treat!

Stack Order is a narrative roguelite deckbuilder about going one-on-one with powerful bosses, each with their own special attacks that you need to work out how to deal with, or, you know, bad things are gonna happen.

It’s set in a handcrafted psychedelic world, and, across its chapter-based structure, you take control of a series of characters and lead them through the game’s narrative. Your aim: direct them to the source of the corruption that’s affecting the world all around.

Stack Order, as the name implies, relies heavily on your ability to prioritise and play your cards in order during battle. It sounds like a game about timing and stifling the momentum of your enemies, all while trying to build your own.

Although it’s new to me, Stack Order has been building an audience for itself since it was announced earlier this year. The original demo was taken offline in the summer, and now Panflip is back with a new one, and it has loads of fresh content to try out.

To be precise, the new Stack Order demo includes two new bosses to battle, each with their own special mechanics, and a new character called Minara to learn. Check out the trailer to see the game in action, and then head to Steam if you want to try the demo on PC (Win).

Still with me? Of course you are! If you want to keep reading about great hand-picked roguelikes, this website is absolutely chock-full of them. Head over to the Guides Page for a concentrated hit of roguish games, organised via sub-genre and platform.

What’s more, there are always going to be new lists for emerging trends as well as fresh titles to highlight. This is because my backlog is embarrassingly long, and so I’m always trying to balance the new games that arrive in my inbox with playing the stuff I already have.
