If you’re a console gamer and big fan of roguelites like Hades and Hades 2, then I have some exciting news for you: Shape of Dreams is out now on consoles!

Not only did the game drop on consoles, but it lands alongside an anniversary update on PC, which adds a new character called Cetus (pictured below), there’s a whole new ending, and all of the characters got their own storylines.

The surprise launch was announced at the Xbox Showcase at Tokyo Game Show, and it has since been confirmed that Shape of Dreams is available on all current console platforms: PS5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series. Given the forum of the announcement, you won’t be surprised to hear that the action-RPG is also available on Game Pass.

Another good bit of news is the fact that the game supports crossplay between all platforms. Teams of up to four players can work together in the co-op mode, and as soon as I get my hands on the console version, I’m going to test the crossplay with PC and then report back.

If you’re an existing player, I daresay you’ll be more interested in the new Starless Path update, which brings Shape of Dreams up to 1.4 on PC (Win). The update includes a new progression loop that expands on the old Mastery system: The Way of the Stars. Here’s how the devs put it, to avoid confusion:

As you play each Traveler, intriguing episodes connect one by one like a constellation, revealing stories about the Travelers that have remained hidden until now. Unlock special rewards along the way, including beautiful illustrations, limited Emotes, and unique Souvenirs for each Traveler.

Working through the new content will eventually take you to a new ending: The Starless Path. Therein you’ll find a new story and a whole new boss!

There is a bunch more detail in the extensive patch notes over on Steam, which will dig into the various balance changes if you want to know about all of the things that have been added in the 1.4 update.

Finally, if you’re new to Shape of Dreams, my review of the game as it was last year would be a good place to start before heading over to Steam, where there’s a discount to mark the game’s 1st anniversary

P.S. A little update: I was on YouTube looking at something else, and I stumbled upon this, which I would have surely included the first time around, had I known about it. Check it out.

What’s more, there are always going to be new lists for emerging trends as well as fresh titles to highlight. This is because my backlog is embarrassingly long, and so I’m always trying to balance the new games that arrive in my inbox with playing the stuff I already have.
