It’s always interesting to discover what’s going on behind the scenes of a game that one is interested in, and the latest developer to show us what’s happening behind the curtain is Matt Dabrowski, the man behind top-down immersive RPG Streets of Rogue 2.
Roguelike sequels aren’t typically the done thing, but the numbers shared in the presser I have before me explain why we’re getting a second game: the 2019 original sold more than 1 million copies, and there already 250k wishlists for the upcoming sequel.
If you were wondering, Streets of Rogue 2 is due out at some point in 2024, and much like its predecessor, there will be multiplayer.
Also like the first game, emergent gameplay is going to be the order of the day. This time we’re getting a whole procedurally generated country to roam across. On top of this Dabrowski is teasing us with city building mechanics, for those who’d like to author something more individual or specific.
The key words here are “pending fan demand”, so if you’d like to get involved, there are spaces on the alpha. Fill out this form to be considered.
The video above shows off some of the different biomes in the game, and there’s another below that was released in late December. I figured anyone who wanted to watch the new devlog, would probably also quite like to watch the first one, too!
