Dead Cells is set to appear in yet another game as a new collaboration has just been announced over on Steam by Hibernian Workshop, the creators of Astral Ascent.
I’ve been keeping track of Astral Ascent since I reviewed it in 2023, and a year later the game’s developer is announcing a really cool crossover with one of the biggest names in the genre.
Dead Cells was a reference for Hibernian Workshop, who noted that it was “a game we took inspiration from for its fluidity of movement and nervous action.” When you consider how nippy Astral Ascent is, and how both games have strong pixel art and lots of swagger, you can see the influence of Motion Twin’s game everywhere…
Dead Cells Rendezvous will include an update to the combat system that will allow you to hold two weapons at once (and get passives for both), as well as five new weapons and 15 more passives:
Nutcracker for Kiran
Throwing Knives for Ayla
Wrenching Whip for Octave
Scythe Claw for Calie
Symmetrical Lance for Yamat
The trailer below confirms the release date for the Dead Cells Rendezvous update, and that date is November 27th. The trailer doesn’t confirm the platforms (the game is available on PC, PlayStation, and Switch), so let’s assume it’s PC only until we hear otherwise, probably over on the game’s Discord channel.
