Astral Ascent is a lovely action-roguelite with a strong Zodiac-theme that I thoroughly enjoyed playing for the Rogueliker review I wrote last month. In a follow-up post shared with the community today, we got a look at what’s next for the game.
Developer Hibernian Workshop dropped the news on Steam alongside fresh intel about an upcoming update that introduces a new damage meter to the game.
You can find out more about the specifics of the update on Steam, but the main takeaway isn’t all that surprising: the new meter will let you see what damage is being dealt at what time. A surprising omission at launch now that I think about it, but one the devs were quick to fix.
The devs write that they’ve been having fun using it to help guide their experiments with different builds. You’ll be able to try it for yourselves once the update drops on December 21 (on PC, other platforms always follow after).
While the damage meter is cool, the roadmap is the headline here. We can see from the infographic below that we’re getting a PvP mode in February, and then new updates every quarter, culminating with a new game mode at the end of the year. Consider me intrigued.
Beyond that, there’s the specifics of this update, which I’ve included in bullet-point form underneath the attached graphic.
A new Damage Meter system so you will know exactly what deals what damage at anytime.

Still with me? Of course you are! If you want to keep reading about great hand-picked roguelikes, this website is absolutely chock-full of them. Head over to the Guides Page for a concentrated hit of roguish games, organised via sub-genre and platform.
What’s more, there are always going to be new lists for emerging trends as well as fresh titles to highlight. This is because my backlog is embarrassingly long, and so I’m always trying to balance the new games that arrive in my inbox with playing the stuff I already have.
