I was just enjoying the trailer for Lazare’s Sacrifice on the game’s new Steam page, and I thought to myself: “Ohhhh, this looks a bit Gwenty.”
Much to my delight, a short scroll later revealed that Lazare’s Sacrifice is in part the work of Damien Monnier, the creator of the original Gwent card game from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
I own a physical copy of Gwent, I don’t mind admitting, and so my interest in Lazare’s Sacrifice was instantly piqued. Then, after reading the details shared over on the game’s new Steam page, I was even more intrigued by this stylish deckbuilder.

Lazare’s Sacrifice is the work of Dream Reality Interactive, a studio I’m not familiar with; however, this upcoming collaboration with Monnier has put them firmly on my radar. Curve Games is publishing.
This narrative deckbuilder is set in a prison in the grip of the French Revolution. Therein, you’ll be confronting historical characters and trying to prove the conspiracy behind your incarceration.
In terms of gameplay, you’ll encounter four factions and build your deck via a mixture of scavenging and taking cards from your fellow inmates, all in the name of avoiding execution via the guillotine.
Lazare’s Sacrifice already looks polished, and when it launches next year, it’ll do so with a narrative-focused Story Mode and a Tower Mode (for custom deckbuilding). I look forward to investigating it properly when the time comes, sometime in the spring of 2027.
