If you’re a fan of slick action-platformers, then BlazBlue Entropy Effect should be right up your street.
Developed by 91 Act and set in the enduring BlazBlue universe, it’s a polished and engaging side-scroller that has done the business on Steam PC since it launched on Mac/Windows back in February, 2024.
Given the premium quality of the game, I was surprised to hear that it would be coming to mobile platforms as a free-to-play release before hitting console in its original form. However, today we got the release date of the worldwide release on Android and iOS, and details of how the game will adapt to the mobile marketplace.
BlazBlue Entropy Effect is free-to-play but in a limited sense; Es, Mai, and Hibiki are all playable characters and available for free for one and all. After that, however, and you’ll need to dip a hand in your pocket.
You can spend a little to unlock one or two characters (including DLC characters, although they’re more expensive), or you can buy a bundle of six. All told, there are 14 playable characters.
The developers are keen to stress that there are no gacha mechanics, which I can appreciate, and it does seem like a good way of packaging up premium games for mobile. Nobody wants loot boxes, after all.
On top of the above there is online and local (LAN) co-op, plus both controller and touch support.
It was also confirmed today that the game has been downloaded in China some six million times, proving that there’s mileage in the game’s adopted format on mobile.
Check out the trailer below, and stay tuned for more details on BlazBlue Entropy Effect soon, or head over to the Google Store or the Apple Store ahead of the game’s release on July 22.
