With Brotato set to appear at tomorrow’s Triple-i Initiative showcase, Evil Empire has surprised fans by announcing that a beta for its next update is now live.
Now available in Steam’s Beta Branch, the All Pain No Gain update adds one new character (The Wounded), one new weapon (the Railgun), and a new difficulty above Danger 5: Nightmare.
The Wounded is said to be a character for more hardcore players with it dying in just one hit. The perks it gets that don’t really offset this are a 5% increase in speed and an 8% increase in harvesting. You also start with a Tardigrade, protecting you from one instance of damage.

The new Nightmare difficulty can be unlocked once you beat Danger 5: Nightmare once. Here, enemies get a damage and speed buff and two new elements are introduced: fog and environmental projectiles. The environmental projectiles almost turn the game into a bullet hell, and the fog covers some areas of the map in darkness.
When it comes to the Railgun, this powerful new weapon can be unlocked by completing a run on any difficulty with The Wounded. Avoiding the damage is also the key when using this one, as its damage increases the more you keep free from danger.
Alongside these headline additions, the update also makes some balancing and small improvements. You are now able to see how you died so that you can better plan your revenge, and there’s the option for Abyssal Terrors owners to select a random starting map.

As I mentioned up top, Brotato is set to appear at tomorrow’s Triple-i Initiative showcase, and it was during last year’s event that the Abyssal Terrors DLC was revealed. With the All Pain No Gain beta being rolled out today, we’ve got our bets on it being another paid DLC.
