Regular readers will know that I like to keep my ear close to the ground when it comes to identifying upcoming games with potential. The latest game to have caught my attention is Death Not Guaranteed, which just appeared on Steam ready for wishlisting.

This fine-looking new deckbuilder is fantasy-themed, and it has you playing as a necromancer who can summon the enemies they defeat. It sounds like you’ll have a grimoire that fills with fallen foes, and then you’ll be able to summon them into battle to take on new bads.

The artwork is really nice, as you can see in the attached image, and in terms of making a first impression, this makes a strong one. I’m also well into the necromancer theme – it feels like creature collecting for grown-ups and totally here for it.

The Steam page mentions that there’ll be seven biomes in the full game, plus you’ll be able to recruit pets. Not sure whether they’ll be dead or not – let’s leave some room for mystery, eh?!

Death Not Guaranteed is the work of FanTactic Studios, and it’s currently only confirmed for PC (Win). When there’s more to tell, including a release date, I’ll let you know!

Still with me? Of course you are! If you want to keep reading about great hand-picked roguelikes, this website is absolutely chock-full of them. Head over to the Guides Page for a concentrated hit of roguish games, organised via sub-genre and platform.

What’s more, there are always going to be new lists for emerging trends as well as fresh titles to highlight. This is because my backlog is embarrassingly long, and so I’m always trying to balance the new games that arrive in my inbox with playing the stuff I already have.
