I’m always on the lookout for interesting new games, and one that caught my eye this week is Guildrun, which has just been given a new Steam page, wherein you can access a brand new demo.

Developed by indie outfit Leyline, Guildrun is a PvE roguelike auto-battler where you assemble your squad of fantasy fighters and then take them into battles that unfold on hex-based arenas.

If you’re not familiar with auto-battlers like this one, simply put, you must build a unit, team, or army and then take them into combat with similarly powerful enemies, and then combat plays out with very little interaction from the player. In fact, nearly all of the theorycrafting takes place before battle, so it’s important to make smart moves when assembling your units and levelling them up.

Guildrun is a game about assembling a band of warriors who can shut down these weird rifts that keep opening up all over the place. In order to do this, we’re promised 25 characters that can be played in a lot of different ways, and according to the listing, it sounds like there’s a fair degree of potential build variety in the demo:

Run-by-run, unlock new heroes, relics and items to discover 25 heroes, 180 specialisations, 300+ relics and 100+ items in the demo alone.

There’s a new trailer to mark the launch of the game’s Steam page and the demo, so watch that to see the game in action. The cel-shaded art is quite nice, and the animations look solid for a game like this. Check it out, then head to Steam where the Guildrun demo is out now on PC (Mac, Win).

Still with me? Of course you are! If you want to keep reading about great hand-picked roguelikes, this website is absolutely chock-full of them. Head over to the Guides Page for a concentrated hit of roguish games, organised via sub-genre and platform.

What’s more, there are always going to be new lists for emerging trends as well as fresh titles to highlight. This is because my backlog is embarrassingly long, and so I’m always trying to balance the new games that arrive in my inbox with playing the stuff I already have.
