You wait ages for a roguish driving sim to turn up and then two arrive at almost the same time. Just like the buses around here, right?!
The first game just released (Pacific Drive) but the second still has a short way to go before it arrives at its final destination. The game in question is called Heading Out and it’s due to park itself on Steam on May 7th.
The premise of Heading Out caught my attention straight away. It’s a game inspired by American road movies of the ’70s, and classics Thelma & Louise and Vanishing Point were both name-dropped in the press release.
Heading Out is described as “a narrative adventure with roguelite elements” where players head out across America’s “cities, highways and backroads on an emotional trip of discovery blending white-knuckle racing, strategy and storytelling.”
Players will be on the run from the law, naturally, so expect lots of high speed chases alongside interesting narrative encounters. I’m also up for driving along to an “eclectic Americana soundtrack”.
Check out the new Heading Out release date trailer below to get a better look at this stylised road trip, and stay tuned to Rogueliker for more on this intriguing title.
