The mic drop at the end of The Triple-i Initiative was a big one, especially if you’re an old and grizzled gamer like me: Evil Empire is making a Prince of Persia roguelite. Hell yeah!

Evil Empire was an offshoot of Motion Twin, but after recent events the pair of companies are no longer working together. The studio’s previous work was all about Dead Cells, and EE continues to work on wrapping things up there. They’ve also been busy on their own thing.

That thing is The Rogue Prince of Persia, an action-platformer with roguelite progression and a strong nod to the classic games in the series. Check out the trailer here:

There’s loads of details about the game on its newly published Steam page, including a release date: May 14, 2024. Not long to wait, then!

In this newest entry in the long-running franchise, we’ll be fighting a Hun army twisted by shamanic magic. Here’s the most interesting cut from the listing:

Find new weapons, equip trinkets with special effects and upgrade them to make your own builds. Discover new characters, information and areas as you try to find a way to save Persia from a Hun invasion and become the hero you have always wanted to be.

In keeping with Evil Empire’s modus operandi, we can expect a lot of community interaction and new content to be added over time. They explained thus:

Join us for the game’s evolution and be part of the community as we create the best possible version of the game together, and add more story acts, levels, enemies, bosses, weapons & more through frequent updates.

Now, look at those spikes and tell me that you don’t feel all nostalgic!
