I don’t think I’ve ever seen a press release with as many cat puns as the one I just read about Ultra Mega Cats, the upcoming multiplayer roguelite from Fallen Leaf.
This feline-filled shooter is due to land in Early Access in the summer of 2024, and it will arrive with two-player co-op and a narrative focus that the developers hope will help it stand out from the crowd.
With Ultra Mega Cats taking inspiration from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Biker Mice from Mars, Fallen Leaf sounds like it has a strong premise. Here are the highlights from the presser:
These aren’t your average kitties; they’re on a mission to free the three Ancient feline gods from the clutches of corporate prisons. With Kagero’s ninja stealth and BBkat’s tank-like resilience, you’ll navigate through a labyrinth of randomly generated rooms, each more challenging than the last. And that’s just the beginning – more characters are set to join the fray, each bringing their own unique flair and abilities to the table.
As mentioned, the game is going to be two-player at launch, but the plan is to eventually extend that to four. There’ll be five characters, but only two at launch, and together you’ll have to rescue three Ancient Cats from some sort of imprisonment. You’ll find out more over on the game’s Steam page, where you can do the wishlisting thing.
