I can’t deny, I was very much looking forward to playing more Breachway after my first look during Steam Next Fest back in February, however, a couple of delays have forced me to wait.

Breachway is a sci-fi rogue with FTL-ish combat and a Slay the Spire-inspired deck-building element. Indeed, this stylish space-faring adventure looks like it could fuse two of the most venerated rogues into one addictive package.

I’m making lofty comparisons and I’m eager not to get too carried away, but there’s no doubting that there’s real potential in this mixture of ingredients and the 100k wishlists it has earned thus far suggests I’m not alone (update: that number is over 150k now).

Breachway’s release date and Early Access contents

Breachway was set to land on March 22nd, then it was due out in July, however, developer Edgeflow Studio and publisher Hooded Horse have just confirmed the game’s release date, with the Early Access launch set for August 30, 2024.

Alongside the revised release date, we also have an overview of what we can expect from the Early Access release, and a new trailer, if that’s your sort of thing. I’ve included a truncated version of the the bullet points from the presser below:

  • Four ship types, each with their own layouts, synergies, bonuses, and initial faction standings.
  • Multiple types of combat systems, from lasers and missiles to flak and railguns, and even hacking!
  • A large collection of over 200 cards to discover to enhance your modules and fine-tune your loadout.
  • Unique characters to recruit to your crew, with special abilities to deploy in combat.
  • A galaxy map with two regions with their own events, enemy types, and boss encounters.
  • Four fully fleshed-out factions, each with their own associated events and allegiances.
  • Meta progression between runs – unlockable ship bonuses, modules, and ship variants.
  • Space stations, missions, items, random events, and more!
  • Localized versions: German, French, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Czech, Hungarian, Ukrainian, Russian, Turkish, Brazilian Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, and Japanese.
Two ships battle, with the attacks labeled on playing cards.
