I love a nice surprise, and today’s was a totally unexpected one: an old RTS game from 2017, Tooth and Tail, has just been updated with a new unit type: the raccoon!
This is actually the second update for the game this year, and it’s great to see that there’s still a community around this innovative RTS title. In fact, unless I’m mistaken, it’s a modder-turned-dev who is handling the updates these days, and the raccoon is their handiwork.
“Raccoons, aka Scavengers, are now available as a new tier 2 unit in multiplayer matches. They are roughly as versatile as Squirrels, more sturdy, and as long as they are outside your territory, they slowly gather Food,” the Steam post explains.
I remember playing Tooth and Tail at launch, because Pocketwatch Games had previously released Monaco, one of my all-time favourites. This rodent-themed RTS is a very different beast (literally) to Monaco, but it was built for competitive play rather than co-op crime capers. Still, I love the pixel art, and I’m super pleased to see the game is still going strong after all these years!
Tooth and Tail is out now on Steam for PC (Lin, Mac, Win).
