If you’re on Nintendo Switch 1 or 2 then you may well be playing Hades II for the first time today (performance details and a launch trailer can be found below).

For many PC-based players, those who have been waiting for the finished game, that’s also the case. In fact, if that’s you, I would invite you to check out my new review while the game downloads.

Having opened on that note, there are many of you who will have been playing throughout Early Access, and for you, the following is new content that has been added in today’s substantial patch.

Hades II hits 1.0

The big one is naturally the game’s true ending, so even if you haven’t been holding back, there is new end-game content to check out.

The other major thing you’ll notice is up to 50 achievements popping when you boot up version 1.0 – finally, you’re going to get the recognition that your grafting and crafting has always deserved.

On top of all that you’ve got new boons and blessings, and a huge number of tweaks, as well as checks and balances across the game’s extensive collection of powers/spells.

Other bits and bobs added in 1.0 include familiar makeovers, new keepsakes to find, new art and features for decorating home base, and the usual audio-visual uplift.

If you want to dive into the nitty gritty of the update, then I invite you to check out the full patch notes over on Steam (the update is also available on Epic Game Store).

What about Hades 2 on console?

Of course, there’s more than one version of the game out today, with Mel’s adventure also making an appearance on Nintendo Switch and on the Switch 2.

Accord to the PR text, the Switch 2 version will get up to “120 frames-per-second performance at 1080p while playing in TV Mode. In Handheld Mode, the game runs at 60 frames-per-second at 1080p.”

Meanwhile, “the Nintendo Switch version runs at 60 frames-per-second at 720p in both modes.” Their words, not mine.

Finally, there’s also going to be a physical edition coming to the Switches on November 20, 2025.

On the other hand, there’s still no official word on when Hades II will be gracing the storefronts of PlayStation and Xbox, but of course, I’ll let you know here as soon as I’ve found out the when and the where of it.

Still with us? Of course you are! If you want to keep reading about great hand-picked rogues, the following articles represent a huge collection of the best roguelike games ever made.

The Best Roguelike Games: great roguelites, deckbuilders, RPGs, bullet heavens, and more

Next, there are genre-specific lists that delve into the best roguelike games of all types. I’ve pulled out the best examples from each category, alongside the links to more in-depth articles!

The best turn-based roguelikes: Caves of Qud | There are some seriously incredible turn-based roguelikes out there. Of all the modern games, these are the closest to the original Rogue.

Great bullet heavens and auto-shooters: Vampire Survivors | There could be only one choice for this category, given how all other games are called survivors-likes for a reason!

Awesome first-person rogues: Gunfire Reborn | We almost went with Blue Prince for this spot, but most people checking out first-person rogues probably want to wield a gun, you know?!

Cool roguelike deckbuilders: Balatro | Sorry, Slay the Spire fans, but this poker-solitaire deckbuilder has stolen Mike’s heart and won’t give it back.

Brilliant roguelite top-down and third-person shooters: Returnal | Bit of a broad one, but with our other favourite action-roguelites featured elsewhere, we were obliged to mention Returnal here.

Exciting roguelike platformers: Spelunky | Now, don’t get us wrong, Dead Cells is an incredible game, especially with all the DLC switched on. But when it comes to impact, you just can’t beat Spelunky.

Strategy Roguelikes: FTL Faster Than Light | Another classic roguelike that we’re still playing years after launch.

Amazing action-roguelites: Hades 2  | And finally, let’s wrap things up with our favourite of them all. There’s no beating the original Hades, although Hades 2 comes pretty close!
