Ants Took My Eyeball is a twin-stick action platformer that releases today and is well worth trying.
The gameplay loop is fast-paced with a lot thrown at you at once. You’re constantly finding new items from weaponry to passive upgrades, all while battling off hordes of enemies. There seems to be a lot of items to pick up just from the first few levels of the game and I imagine the pool gets even larger as you go through the meta-progression.
Your goal is to dive down into the depths of the earth in search of your stolen eyeball and to seek revenge on those who took it. For a game about bugs and dirt, the enemy variety I’ve seen so far is surprisingly great with elite enemy types, big stomping beetles, and bugs that use javelins.
My small criticisms with the game are a couple things that I could get used to with time. Both the gamepad and keyboard & mouse controls are kind of clunky, particularly the dashing buttons being hard to reach. Also while I love the chunky pixelart in the game, I found it to be somewhat difficult to discern what is and isn’t an active threat at times.
Ants Took My Eyeball is definitely one to pay attention to with a lot of depth and some great gameplay. The game isout now on Steam PC, and it supports co-op for 1-4 people. Thank you to Bosmic Forge for the review code!
