After releasing on PC, Mac, and PlayStation earlier this year, Darkest Dungeon II‘s free Secrets of the Coven update is out now on Switch and Xbox. This witchy expansion is the second of three Kingdoms game mode adventure modules for the uncompromising roguelite road trip sequel.
Secrets of the Coven adds a new Kingdoms quest, enemy faction, new mechanics and items, as well as a number of community-requested Kingdoms features, including inn storage, item selling, and more.
Kingdoms is a free game mode that reimagines how Darkest Dungeon II plays. Unlike the original Confessions mode, Kingdoms tasks players with defending the realm and a network of inns against powerful new enemy factions. The first expansion to be released was Hunger of the Beast Clan and a third is planned for release later in 2025.
Mike spent time with the first chapter of the Kingdom update when it launched earlier in the year. In his review of this new campaign mode, he said: “The original Darkest Dungeon will always hold a special place in my twisted heart that I doubt will ever be supplanted, but Kingdoms is a fine alternative that stands alongside the original.”
