Believe it or not, it’s one month to go until we can sink our teeth into Vampire Crawlers: The Turbo Wildcard from Vampire Survivors.

The Vampire Survivors spin-off was a huge hit during last month’s Steam Next Fest, ranking fifth overall for most downloads and outperforming the likes of Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflect and Pragmata.

Following in the footsteps of Mewgenics and Slay the Spire 2, it’s shaping up to be one of the year’s standout releases. Before it officially drops, here’s everything we know about the game so far in one handy guide.

What is Vampire Crawlers?

Vampire Crawlers is a turn-based deckbuilding spin-off of poncle’s massively successful Vampire Survivors series. The gameplay loop in this one sees you build busted decks, explore familiar dungeons from the series, and unleash world-ending combos.

Is DLC planned for Vampire Crawlers?

poncle has noted in a Q&A on the Vampire Crawlers Steam page that it plans to support the game with post-launch content.

The team claims it has thousands of items for the game, but they want to wait first to receive player feedback before deciding what’s next.

Is there a demo for Vampire Crawlers?

Luckily, if you missed Vampire Crawlers during Steam Next Fest, the demo is still available on PC and Xbox and all progress carries to the full release.

The devs have noted that the full release will differ from the demo in that it will include more fixes and improvements. The demo will also be updated in the future to reflect these changes.

The demo received some criticism from players regarding its level of challenge, but poncle noted in a blog post that it had intentionally made the demo a little more ‘forgiving.’

Vampire Crawlers trailers

The latest trailer for Vampire Crawlers is the price and release date trailer which landed less than a week ago. I love the unhinged energy it brings, especially the delightfully so‑bad‑it’s‑good Dracula narration.

If you’ve visited the Steam page for Vampire Crawlers this one might feel familiar. The gameplay preview trailer gave us a closer look at the game’s pixelated locales and deckbuilding action. The music for this one is also incredible and will undoubtedly be in regular rotation in my work playlist.

It’s strange to think that Vampire Crawlers was only revealed last November. The announcement trailer offered us our very first teased of the game and is packed with the tongue-in-cheek humour that we’ve now come to expect from poncle.

Vampire Crawlers release date, price, and platforms

The release date for Vampire Crawlers is coming up fast arriving on PC (Mac, Win), PS5, Nintendo Switch consoles, and Xbox Series on April 21st and it will cost £9.99 / $9.99 / EUR9,99 / YEN 1200. Vampire Crawlers will also be arriving day one on Xbox Game Pass (Ultimate and Premium).

Android and iOS versions won’t be available at launch, but they will be releasing at an unconfirmed date later this year.

Interestingly, poncle has mentioned that the game will not support cross-saves at launch. This is something they will be exploring in the future to coincide with the mobile ports.

Regarding the price, the team also mentioned that Crawlers is more expensive than Survivors as it’s being developed by a full team rather than a solo developer. Vampire Survivors was made on a budget of £1,100, and the new game will be developed by poncle and Nosebleed Interactive.

The Best Roguelike Games: great roguelites, deckbuilders, RPGs, bullet heavens, and more

Next, there are genre-specific lists that delve into the best roguelike games of all types. I’ve pulled out the best examples from each category, alongside the links to more in-depth articles!

The best turn-based roguelikes: Caves of Qud | There are some seriously incredible turn-based roguelikes out there. Of all the modern games, these are the closest to the original Rogue.

Great bullet heavens and auto-shooters: Vampire Survivors | There could be only one choice for this category, given how all other games are called survivors-likes for a reason!

Awesome first-person rogues: Gunfire Reborn | We almost went with Blue Prince for this spot, but most people checking out first-person rogues probably want to wield a gun, you know?!

Cool roguelike deckbuilders: Balatro | Sorry, Slay the Spire fans, but this poker-solitaire deckbuilder has stolen Mike’s heart and won’t give it back.

Brilliant roguelite top-down and third-person shooters: Returnal | Bit of a broad one, but with our other favourite action-roguelites featured elsewhere, we were obliged to mention Returnal here.

Exciting roguelike platformers: Spelunky | Now, don’t get us wrong, Dead Cells is an incredible game, especially with all the DLC switched on. But when it comes to impact, you just can’t beat Spelunky.

Strategy Roguelikes: FTL Faster Than Light | Another classic roguelike that we’re still playing years after launch.

Amazing action-roguelites: Hades 2  | And finally, let’s wrap things up with our favourite of them all. There’s no beating the original Hades, although Hades 2 comes pretty close!
