If you’ve been eagerly awaiting updates about Risk of Rain 2: Seekers of the Storm, then today is the day that you’ve been waiting for, as Gearbox Software just sent over details about the Seeker, the first of three new survivors coming to the game.

I’ll not rewrite things for the sake of it, and so much of the press release that was sent to me last night is included below in its entirety, along with the two new trailers that show the Seeker in action. Here’s the official spiel:

A master of soul manipulation, Seeker channels a mythical power to bring a strong combination of damage and healing to the iconic roguelike. Players who learn how to seamlessly flow between them will be rewarded with one of the most versatile Survivors to ever grace a drop pod.

Once you reach a sufficiently tranquil state, you can even bring fallen allies back to life! Seeker’s presence can turn the tide of any battle, offering both devastation and salvation in equal measure. Embrace duality and lead your team to victory!

Alongside the above dev diary, we’ve got details about Seeker’s main abilities, and there’s a gameplay trailer after that!

  • Meditate – allowing Seeker to unleash a powerful short-range blast that not only damages enemies, but provides a handy heal for allies;
  • Spirit Punch – a two-punch combo that propels Seeker forward and is then followed up by an explosive third punch making Seeker a strong AOE bruiser;
  • Unseen Hand – gives Seeker a bit of range by throwing out a giant phantasmal hand from the ground to slow, knock back, and drain health from all that are in range.
  • Sojourn – take self damage while flying high in the air before colliding into enemies dealing damage and stunning those in range.

There’s still no official word on when Seekers of the Storm is going to launch on PC, PS, Switch, and Xbox, but we’ve got a couple more characters to meet before the expansion arrives, so stay tuned for more Risk of Rain 2 news here on Rogueliker, you beauties!

The Best Roguelike Games: great roguelites, deckbuilders, RPGs, bullet heavens, and more

Next, there are genre-specific lists that delve into the best roguelike games of all types. I’ve pulled out the best examples from each category, alongside the links to more in-depth articles!

The best turn-based roguelikes: Caves of Qud | There are some seriously incredible turn-based roguelikes out there. Of all the modern games, these are the closest to the original Rogue.

Great bullet heavens and auto-shooters: Vampire Survivors | There could be only one choice for this category, given how all other games are called survivors-likes for a reason!

Awesome first-person rogues: Gunfire Reborn | We almost went with Blue Prince for this spot, but most people checking out first-person rogues probably want to wield a gun, you know?!

Cool roguelike deckbuilders: Balatro | Sorry, Slay the Spire fans, but this poker-solitaire deckbuilder has stolen Mike’s heart and won’t give it back.

Brilliant roguelite top-down and third-person shooters: Returnal | Bit of a broad one, but with our other favourite action-roguelites featured elsewhere, we were obliged to mention Returnal here.

Exciting roguelike platformers: Spelunky | Now, don’t get us wrong, Dead Cells is an incredible game, especially with all the DLC switched on. But when it comes to impact, you just can’t beat Spelunky.

Strategy Roguelikes: FTL Faster Than Light | Another classic roguelike that we’re still playing years after launch.

Amazing action-roguelites: Hades 2  | And finally, let’s wrap things up with our favourite of them all. There’s no beating the original Hades, although Hades 2 comes pretty close!
