As we – gestures broadly – discuss our games of the year and bestow awards upon our favourites, one that I’m sure will be acknowledged here on Rogueliker is White Knuckle.
The last major update, The Abyss, was followed by a Halloween update called Parasite, and there’s time for one more content patch before the year’s end: another seasonal event, this time intended to bring cheer to one and all!
The update is called The Chimney, and it introduces an endless mode with a holiday theme, along with new ice-cold hazards, such as blizzards and freezing temperatures. Additionally, there are now hot and cold surfaces to contend with. I’m guessing these cold surfaces will come into play when grabbing ledges created by the new cryo-gun!
On top of the gameplay changes, there are new animations, plus you can customise your in-game hands, which is linked to a collab with artist Balabanodo. Check out the trailer below to see the update in action, and hit this link to read up on the changes or try the demo over on Steam.

The best turn-based roguelikes: Caves of Qud | There are some seriously incredible turn-based roguelikes out there. Of all the modern games, these are the closest to the original Rogue.
Awesome first-person rogues: Gunfire Reborn | We almost went with Blue Prince for this spot, but most people checking out first-person rogues probably want to wield a gun, you know?!
Cool roguelike deckbuilders: Balatro | Sorry, Slay the Spire fans, but this poker-solitaire deckbuilder has stolen Mike’s heart and won’t give it back.
Exciting roguelike platformers: Spelunky | Now, don’t get us wrong, Dead Cells is an incredible game, especially with all the DLC switched on. But when it comes to impact, you just can’t beat Spelunky.
Amazing action-roguelites: Hades 2 | And finally, let’s wrap things up with our favourite of them all. There’s no beating the original Hades, although Hades 2 comes pretty close!
